AddresseeWinchilsea, 8th Earl of
DescriptionThe Duke of Somerset is surprised to know that the King's intention to give him the title of Earl of Northumberland was interrupted by a letter from his son [Algernon Seymour, 7th Duke of Somerset] claiming that his daughter [Elizabeth Percy, Duchess of Northumberland] would have inherited the Northumberland estate, assuming, then, a pretence to the title over Sir Charles Wyndham [the Duke's favourite grandson].
The Duke gives a detail reasoning of why this pretence is unlawful and suggests a different solution for the division of the Northumberland and the Percy estates.
