TitleLetter from Augusta Carolina, Duchess of Württemberg, to her mother Augusta, Duchess of Brunswick, about her wish to return to Brunswick with her son
Date21 October 1781
WriterWürttemberg, Augusta Carolina, Duchess of (1764-1788)
AddresseeBrunswick, Augusta, Duchess of (1737-1813)
DescriptionThe Duchess says that she has written to her father to ask permission to return to Brunswick and hopes to come as soon as she is fit to travel; she and her husband have to move but do not know where they are to live. She and her baby son [Friedrich Wilhelm, born on 27 September] are well and she asks permission to bring him with her. She is sad to leave her husband, who is being badly treated by the King [Frederick II of Prussia]. She asks for the Countess Goertz to be lodged at the palace, near the baby, or if that is not possible, for him to be lodged near her as she cannot leave him alone with a wet-nurse.
The letter has been numbered after the two preceding letters from her, as the date has evidently been read as 1787, but internal evidence shows that it must be 1781.
