The King [George III] intends to take to the battlefield in case of invasion, 'a Purpose well suited to His Great Situation, and Spirited Character', but the Prince would have 'remained the only idle Spectator, if accident had not placed Him at the Head of a Regiment.' The present crisis supercedes 'those trifling points' of whether his first commission was received under Declaration to expect no further rank.
