TitleNewspaper reports relating to Lord Althorpe's parliamentary motion regarding George, Prince Regent's allowance
Date1 June 1815
DescriptionOn 31 May 1815 Lord Althorpe presented a motion to inquire into how an allowance of £100,000, granted for the 'outfit' of George, Prince of Wales upon ascending to the Regency, was subsequently spent. It was debated whether a committee should be appointed to inquire into the matter as it was claimed the sum was used to settle his debts, which Althorpe argued was not its intended purpose, and therefore gained under false pretences, violating an act of parliament. The motion, when put to a vote, did not pass through the House.
