DescriptionThe Duke is answering a letter received by Lord Melville in which was confirmed the order to haul down his flag. The Duke feels this decision is unfair and feels personally hurt by it.
He received Melville's order to send ships immediately to Portsmouth. The Commander in Chief there shows him the Orders for the Naval Ceremony in the presence of the allied sovereigns.
Two servants are carrying this letter expressly to Melville and to McMahon. The Duke will keep his flag flying until the servants return.
